Correspondence of Stephen Page while he is in Chicago

October 31, 2005 Hey Andrew! Thanks for writing!!

Things have been going pretty good over here. School is done in quarters, so we have just passed midterms and will end the first quarter shortly after Thanksgiving. I will be coming home Nov 22nd-27th. Will of course stop by. Maybe engage in battle and ping pong.

I sat in front of my computer and, with a look of pure disbelief, watched Jeff and Judah qualify for the Darwin awards. This completely beat out shooting people in the back with the shotgun.

Which leads me to my next point of conversation...I don't think people up here would believe half of what I told them about Apt106 adventures. Most of them are wide-eyed at the prospect of me owning a gun (BB though it may be, I didn't distinguish), much less apartment battles, ninja stars, and the ominous firing squad. People are already wary enough since I come from Texas... ("Whut makes you thank Ah tawk funny?")

Actually, after being here for a while, I have noticed that I do have a bit of an accent, although it was unnoticeable when I was actually in Texas. But I catch myself drawing out a few words here and there...Other people have mentioned I have a bit of an accent.

Ah yes, the people up here... Well, for one thing, Judah will be happy to know Evanston is a mostly-Jewish community and in fact my landlady is Jewish. Although her family is, in her words, "Jewish, but not practicing Jews." There are lots of practicing Jews here, though, as well as practicing every other ethnicity you can think of. Chicago has the largest Polish community in America!

But anyway, the people up here tend to be pretty abrupt, and are nice, but only if you are nice first. No Southern Hospitality up here.

The ocean-I mean the lake is really nice here, although it has brought in the cold weather already. There is an actual FALL here! Trees turning, leaves falling, trees everywhere! Wow! But I wouldn't trade it for Texas anyday! Up here it is extremely crowded. So many people live in the Chicago area, and it is not spread out like Texas. It feels very closed in. But go out of the city limits about thirty miles, and you will have cornfields for hours.

I have a month off for Christmas break! December 8th-January 4th, I think. We should plan a fun apt106 trip or battle or something. Pat should come up from Florida too.

I tried the Apt106 Southpark quiz and scored 100% first try! I almost got Jeff and Judah mixed up, then realized Jeff would be the one with dense facial hair.

Well, this has turned into a novel, so I will give you a reading break and a chance to write back, and of course feel free to post correspondence on the website.

Just thought I would shoot you an email. Its about midnight on a sunday and I have to finish writting a paper by tomarrow but I am inches away from finishing so I can procratinate the end a little longer. I hope you are doing well up there at Northwestern; things are going fine down here. Well as good as fine can be. The pepper spray incident last week I think may qualify for a Darwin Award. Send back an email and let us know how you are doing. I'll try to have Judah put up your correspondence on the website so everyone can see. God Bless.
